HISTORY, PROVENANCE, ANECDOTAL, METAPHYSICAL, SYMBOLISM &/or LORE: The birth of rhinestones as we know them today occurred during the 1700's in Europe. A French jeweler named Georges Frédéric Strass played a pivotal role in revolutionizing the world of jewelry. Strass developed a technique involving the application of a unique type of leaded glass to the back of faceted crystal, enhancing its brilliance and sparkle. These imitation gems offered an affordable and accessible option for people who desired opulent adornments. The term "rhinestone" itself was derived from the name of the European Rhine River, where the rock crystals were historically found. However, high end modern rhinestones are now made from high quality glass that has been treated and/or coated to emulate the appearance of fine genuine gemstones. This evolution has allowed for greater creativity in jewelry design, as well as a wider array of colors and shapes of stones that can be easily incorporated into various pieces. This show-stopping pendant ball embodies just that concept - with it's wide range of glass rhinestone gems that boast a fabulous juxtaposition of color, shape, and effect.

"A picture is worth a thousand words"
Please view & enlarge photographs to closely inspect fine details and to determine the amount of patina, wear, and/or discoloration. Most older pieces by nature normally are "Perfectly Imperfect" and have some degree of all - and unless severe, aren't considered damaged and not mentioned (especially if obvious and/or prominent in the photos). These characteristics lend to the vintage look, charm, story, and are part of the history of each and every piece. Individuals do have varying levels of desire and tolerance for "vintage charm" so do utilize the scroll arrows beside the photos to allow yourself the opportunity to view them all and gauge for yourself, as they are an integral part and extension of the description.
